Register as a Trainee and get practical experience

We recommend 1500 hours of related work experience and/or training at a fire alarm laboratory.

Take the theory exam

Multiple-choice and taken online

Take the practical exam

Taken in-person at a time and location arranged with the CFAA.

Register as a full technician

You’ll then be recognized publicly as a CFAA Registered Technician. You’ll also keep up your registration with continuing education and license renewals every 1 or 2 years.
